TRUE COST
The True Cost documentary came out in 2015 spreading awareness informing viewers about the problems of fast fashion. I believe the documentary has a huge impact on the audience observing the film. The True Cost is the first step to alert people that it has and is affecting people worldwide. However, there are a lot more steps we as a whole society need to take before fast fashion is no longer a worry in the fashion industry. The Rana Plaza tragedy was the focus during the documentary and that is just one of the many tragic accidents that occurred because of the unsustainable companies. The accident killed 1,134 people and harmed over 2,500 survivors all because some fashion industries wanted the easiest way to sell their items. The amount of people who get killed daily risking their lives making not even a penny for companies is absurd. Watching the documentary many thoughts appeared in my head. It is interesting to me that not many people are aware of this problem. I understand people might have heard the name fast fashion, but do they really know what it means? It has been brought to my attention that the fashion industry is hiding so much information that we as outside viewers have no idea what is occurring. The problem is many people will not do anything about this problem. Yes, this video spreads awareness but to stop this problem we as individuals need to take action. Putting one foot in front of the other. For instance, investigate which stores are fast fashion. Next stop buying from those certain brands, if we as a community stop all together, they won't have a business. That is just one example of how to solve a problem. We as individuals can be in control, we just must take action. Hearing only 3% of clothing is made in the U.S hurt my ears. Seriously? Another problem that needs to change, but who is going to do it and who is just going to sit back? On top of that they are not aware of what is going on. For example, what about the people who aren't even interested in fast fashion? Do they even know what it is? I can assure you they don't. This problem has not been brought up enough to alert outside viewers. People are not educated enough and need to be aware that there are human beings on the other side of the world on their hands and knees risking their life to make clothing for the U.S until they don't know nothing can be solved. I believe this topic is not brought up enough. Before watching this documentary, I only knew the name of fast fashion and I am so disappointed in myself because watching this film broke my heart. I had no idea how terrible fast fashion really was. This changed my whole perspective on the fashion industry and each induvial brand. My dream one day is to start my own line, and I will learn from this video going forward to never put any human being in this position and make sure fast fashion is nowhere in sight. For instance, making sure recycling is not a possibly but a priority or making sure each piece of fabric is made in a safe environment, and no one is being harmed. It is unfortunate what the world has come to, and the amount of people's actions occurred all around money. People first need to stop and think if it will have effect on someone life. In the future I want to explore all the possible ways to end fast fashion and find creative ways to do it.
